1st Holy Communion

Posted on

My neighbor asked me to do her son’s First Holy Communion cake. It was great, because Kieran came over to my house, and we went through pictures of my cakes, and we looked on the internet. He picked out exactly what he wanted! Talk about a kid who knows what he wants in a cake! So this is Kieran’s design! Congratulations Kieran!

Audrey’s 4th Birthday/Easter

Posted on

My beautiful niece turned 4 a week before Easter this year. Her mom decided instead of getting the entire family together twice in 2 weeks, that we would celebrate her birthday along with Easter. (Smart move mom!) But Audrey did want to take cupcakes into pre-school to celebrate her birthday with her friends. (something I never got to do for my kids, because their birthdays are in August) So I gladly made her tie-dye ¬†spring themed cupcakes. I played with candy clay for the first time making these. The butterflies and flowers were both made of chocolate. It’s not as easy as I thought it would be…unless I got my measurements wrong when I made it.

Audrey asked for a Little Einstein’s themed cake. More specifically Leo and the Rocket. Knowing it was going to be on Easter, I only made a small 6 inch chocolate cake. I made the rocket out of RKT, then covered it in fondant. Because I hold Easter, I had a lot of¬†preparations¬†to do. ¬†I was only going to make Leo…but at the last minute, I had a few free hours, so I made the other characters as well.

When Audrey came over for Easter, she gave me a hug hello, and asked where her rocket cake was…She then¬†proceeded¬†to say, “Aunt Linda, you’re the best cake maker!” ¬†This is the reason on why I do this! ¬†Later that night, she did warn me…”Aunt Linda, next time I want a Scooby Doo cake” . ¬†So there’s my order, a year in advance. I’m sure it will change 10 times before then. Happy 4th Birthday Audrey.

I try to make special treats for Easter. I found some REALLY cute things online everywhere! I picked 2 things and ran with it! The first one, was carrots. (original design~Hostess with the Mostess) What I found online was sugar cones baked with cake inside of them. I gave it my own twist and stuffed the cones with cake truffles, then dipped them in orange chocolate. With the leftover cake truffles, I made “eggs”. ¬†The carrots were good…but I will stick with the recipe I found, for next year. It was way too sweet for my taste! I’m sure the kids enjoyed the sugar high though! The second thing I made was¬†chocolate¬†chicks! (original design~Hungry Happenings) These were chocolate chicks with candy on the inside. These were too stinking cute! To go along with the chicks, I made chocolate nests. You’ll see in the pictures everything was too cute!

Young Wedding

Posted on

I met a wonderful woman this past September. We have become fast friends. Miriam asked me if I would make her daughter’s wedding cake. I was thrilled! I met with Julie and Tim at Miriam’s house, they are a very cute couple! Ideas bounced around, they knew they wanted something different, and after a little bit… they decided! Cake truffles! They had 4 flavors! Peppermint, lemon, vanilla, and cookies and cream. Their cake that they cut consisted of fruit! Oooh did it look delicious! It had a lemon curd filling, and was topped with strawberries, kiwi, grapes, blackberries, and blueberries. They had the cutest cake topper too! Legos! They had a lego bride and groom. I’ve never seen anything like this, it was very original!!
I totally forgot to bring my camera when we dropped them off, so we used hubby’s IPhone…the pics aren’t too bad!

Congratulations Julie and Tim. I wish you both many years of happiness!

Mardi Gras Topsy Turvy

Posted on

This post is a long time coming, Yes, I’ve been baking, but so much has been going on that I haven’t had time to write any posts. I will try to catch up over the next few days, at least with posting pictures.

This cake was for a Sweet 16 party. They wanted a Topsy Turvy Mardi Gras cake. The masks were made of gumpaste. There were also  truffles to go along with it. This was my first time making a topsy turvy cake. And boy did I learn alot! This cake was so heavy that it had to be delivered in pieces! But it made it!

Sam and Jim’s Wedding

Posted on

I was asked to make Sam’s wedding cake awhile back. She’s a simple girl, like me. Know’s what she wants, and untraditional! I love that! She had asked me to make a small cake for them to cut and smash…and cupcakes for the crowd! I asked if she had a topper…she asked me to find one where she’s dragging Jim. (Did I say I like this girl?!?) I suggested truffles along with the cupcakes…they were a hit! I made both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes; and chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet truffles. They wanted their color theme to be white and black with a hint of red. I think I hit it for them. This is what I had needed the special cake stand for! It looked beautiful once I had it all set up!

To Jim and Sam, Congratulations! May you have a long and happy marriage!

Halloween Cake Pops

I’ve been wanting to make my co-workers cake pops and truffles for a while now. August was a busy month with all of the birthdays in my family, so here we are in September, and I had a free day. So Ginny, Jen, Jeannette, Tom, Joe, Tim, Dave, Naseem, Laura, and Kristen, you are “going back to school” with Halloween cake pops! I made a chocolate cake, mixed it with Nutella, and made Candy Corn, Jack-O’-Lanterns, and chocolate cake truffles! Yummy!!!

Tommy Turns 16!

My step-son is a character. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday this year, and he responds, “You know, I’ve been thinking about this. And I think I want a margarita cake. Yes, a cake in the shape of a margarita.” Not just any margarita cake, he wants it standing up, like a real glass. Now, while that is very possibly, yet stressful (not to mention I didn’t feel like tackling such a project) I asked him how we were going to cut such a cake…”Ooooh good point!” he says. I told him, not to worry. I will come up with the perfect cake for him. So, I made a homemade, lemon-lime cake, with a lime whipped cream icing. But I didn’t forget his request. Soooo, I made margarita cake pops! The majority of ¬†margarita cake pops I see, have sugar as the salted rim. Now personally I love the mix of salty and sweet. So I used real margarita salt for the rim of the cake pops. They are out of this world! For those of us who don’t like the mix, I made just plain cake truffles also. Happy Birthday Tommy!
